Senior Commodities

This program provides a staple of nutritious, USDA-supplied food items for low-income adults age 60 and older and is intended to supplement other food sources over two months. This is an additional service available to eligible seniors.

2024 Eligibility for Senior Commodities

Recipients of Commodity Boxes must be at least 60 years of age and under the income guideline set at 130% of the federal poverty level. You qualify for this program if you are a single-person household making $1,632 or less a month or a two-person household making $2,215 or less a month combined. For each additional person in your household, add $583 to your monthly income. Review the chart below for more details.

Senior Farmers Market Coupons

This program provides low-income adults, age 60 and older, a $48 supply of coupons to shop at local Farmers Markets, allowing Seniors to enhance their food resources with fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruit. Coupons must be used during the year they are obtained.

Farmers Market Coupon Distribution:

Pick up coupons on Wed, June 26th, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lewis Street Pantry, 1616 Lewis St. in Helena.

Picking up coupons is easy:

  • Drive up, and volunteers will help sign you up and hand you the coupons.
  • You’ll need to show an ID and know your monthly income when picking up coupons.
  • Coupons are available for a household size of 1 with a $2,321.75 or less monthly income or a household size of 2 with a $3,151.17 or less monthly income.
  • If you have more people in your household, call our offices or ask the volunteer when picking up coupons about income requirements.

Coupons may be used at the following Helena-area locations:

  • Helena Farmer’s Market on Fuller Ave (downtown) on Saturdays from 9 am – 2 pm
  • East Helena Farmer’s Market, Main Street Park, on Tuesdays from 3  -6 pm
  • Capitol Square Farmers Market (behind the Capitol)  on the 3rd Tuesday of July, Aug & Sept  from 2:30 – 6:30 pm
  • Johnson’s Nursery & Gardens, 5935 McHugh Lane, open 9 am – 6 pm
